Susan B. Nelson

Susan has focused her practice in insurance defense matters, primarily involving the construction industry, representing architects, engineers, surveyors, construction managers, general contractors and subcontractors in commercial and residential construction of buildings, roadways, bridges, landfills, sanitary sewers, waterlines and public water supply systems. Her practice also includes the defense of employers against workplace intentional torts, premises liability cases, and professional liability defense. Susan has defended clients in jury and bench trials, appeals, mediation and arbitration since joining the firm in 1983.

• Kendrick v. Cleveland Metroparks Bd. of Commrs. (1995), 74 Ohio St.3d 152, appeal dismissed as improvidently allowed (immunity for park district preserved)
• Paul v. Uniroyal Plastics Co., 62 Ohio App.3d 277 (6th Dist. Ct. App. 1988) (premises liability)
• Sun Refining & Marketing Co. v. Brennan (1987), 31 Ohio St.3d 306 (administrative law appellate procedure)
• Successful resolution of multi-party litigation involving residential and commercial construction claims, including OSHA and VSSR matters
• Extensive experience defending employers against workplace employer-employee intentional tort claims
• On-site investigation of workplace accidents and slip and falls
• Successful defense of employers as to Workers Compensation claims involving alleged violations of specific safety requirements before The Industrial Commission of Ohio
